In the realm of contemporary art, the use of technical words can cause confusion; but is 'simulation' really that difficult to understand?  Our speakers will discuss copying, memetics, Baudrilliard and Disney in the second of three talks offering a beginner’s guide to contemporary art.

Chair: Carolyn Hassan (KWMC Director). Speakers; Joe Magee, artist, Dane Watkins, and Alex Franklin, lecturer and writer (Bath Spa University).

Knowle West Media Centre

Knowle West Media Centre (KWMC) is an arts charity based in South Bristol. For over 15 years they've been supporting communities to access and get the best out of digital technologies and the arts, developing the creative, educational and social potential of people within the surrounding community and the city as a whole.

KWMC provides opportunities for young people to explore and experiment with digital media, such as music-making, filmmaking and photography; offers a range of digital and environmental projects to encourage sustainable living; and organises a regular programme of arts activities.
Their recent work includes establishing a record label for young musicians, running an energy metering project and commissioning artists to explore creative ways to represent 'live' data.
